On 20 October 2025, the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in partnership with the EU Project Pravo-Justice, hosted an educational webinar titled “Core Values of the EU: Judicial Effectiveness and Anti-Corruption Prevention”.
The webinar featured presentations by Dr. Dario Quitavalle, Head of Unit at the Ministry of Justice of Italy, Senior Development Expert on the Rule of Law, Lecturer at LUISS Guido Carli University (Rome, Italy), and International Short-Term Expert of the EU Project Pravo-Justice; and Dr. Oleksandr Sydielnikov, Team Lead of the EU Anti-Corruption Initiative component “Support to Anti-Corruption Institutions” and Visiting Lecturer at the Ukrainian Catholic University.
The discussion focused on a wide range of important issues, including the European Union’s approaches to safeguarding judicial independence and effectiveness, the role of sound court management as a tool to enhance transparency and accountability, and the key EU benchmarks for judicial reform – judicial independence and impartiality, transparent and merit-based appointment procedures, disciplinary accountability, and adherence to high ethical standards.
Special attention was given to European approaches to ensuring fair adjudication of high-level corruption cases, the current challenges Ukraine faces in implementing these standards, and the practical steps needed to strengthen the independence, integrity, and efficiency of judicial institutions in line with the European principles of the rule of law.
Simultaneous interpretation for the webinar was provided thanks to EU Project Pravo-Justice, which made the event accessible to a broader audience.
