On March 10, 2025, a webinar was held to explore key aspects of the European Union’s competition policy, its impact on Member States, and enforcement mechanisms. The relevance of this educational event lies in the fact that EU competition law is not only a legal instrument but also a crucial factor in economic transformation and democratic development.

The speaker was Kati Cseres, an Associate Professor of Law at the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and Governance (ACELG) and Program Director of the EU Law Masters at the University of Amsterdam.

During the webinar, the following topics were covered:

- The role of competition law as a constitutional foundation of the EU and its impact on the EU enlargement process;

- Key competition law provisions, including antitrust regulation, merger control, and state aid rules;

- Challenges and mechanisms for ensuring effective enforcement at both the EU and national levels, as well as the prospects for harmonizing competition law in EU candidate states;

- The specifics of decentralized enforcement through national competition authorities;

- The impact of digital markets and new regulatory instruments (DMA, FSR) on the competitive environment.

Participants had the opportunity to discuss the fundamental principles of EU competition law, its influence on integration processes, and its role in ensuring the functioning of a market economy.

Simultaneous interpretation was provided with the support of the EU project “Association4U”, making the webinar accessible to a wide audience.
