EU Transport Policy: Challenges and Opportunities for Ukraine

On 13 May 2026, as part of the ongoing cooperation between the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the INTER PARES project, an educational webinar entitled “EU Transport Policy” was held.
The webinar featured experts from the European Parliament: Mathias GULLENTOPS, Policy Analyst, Structural Policies Unit, European Parliamentary Research Service; Monika KISS, Policy Analyst, Structural Policies Unit, European Parliamentary Research Service; and Maja STRNAD MESKO, Parliamentary Research Administrator, Policy Department for Transport, Employment and Social Affairs, European Parliament.
The presentations explored the key priorities of contemporary EU transport policy, as well as recent and forthcoming legislative initiatives in the areas of road, rail, aviation, and maritime transport. Particular attention was also given to sustainable mobility and the development of transport connectivity across Europe.
Special focus was placed on the practical challenges of aligning Ukrainian transport legislation with EU standards, as well as the opportunities that integration into the European transport area offers for the modernisation of infrastructure, strengthening logistics capacity, and the development of a sustainable transport system in Ukraine.
