Euro-Integration Experience of the Balkans: Delegation of the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Visited North Macedonia

In the
framework of the Balkan Initiative of the Research Service of the Verkhovna
Rada of Ukraine and with the facilitation of Ukraine2EU - the EU Programme for
Supporting the European Integration of Ukraine a study visit of the Research
Service delegation to the Macedonian Parliamentary Institute took place.
This visit continued the institution's systematic efforts to develop the analytical and institutional capacity of the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, which is essential for the effective adaptation of national legislation to the EU acquis.
North Macedonia, which possesses its own practical experience in undergoing European integration procedures and harmonizing its legal framework with EU law, is an important partner for professional exchange in the field of parliamentary analytics and research support for lawmaking.
Key Focus Areas of the Visit:
• During negotiations with Macedonian colleagues, the delegation members familiarized with the institution's work organization, approaches to expert support for the legislative process, and parliamentary oversight mechanisms in the field of European integration.
• Special attention was paid to modern digital tools and AI-based solutions utilized in parliamentary work.
• The parties discussed the role of analytical units in ensuring a high-quality process of aligning legislation with EU standards, as well as coordination between the legislature, government, and other state institutions.
High-Level Meetings:
• A productive dialogue took place at the Ministry of European Affairs of the Republic of North Macedonia, where participants discussed the practical aspects of managing European integration processes.
• The agenda also included a working meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Republic of North Macedonia, Ms. Larysa Dir. During this dialogue, the parties emphasized the importance of inter-institutional and inter-parliamentary cooperation to support Ukraine's European integration course.
