Abstract. The analytical note examinesthe legislative regulation of the activities of the Harbour Master’s Office in the context of implementing the provisions of Directive 2009/16/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 April 2009 on port State control. It analyses the organisation and functioning of state maritime safety control systems in seaports, drawing on the experience of Great Britain, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, France and Estonia.
