Dmytro Starodub, Chief Research Consultant at the Economic Development and Financial Policy Department of the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, participated in the foresight workshop “The Futures of the R&I System in Ukraine 2035+,” held on 22–23 July 2026 at the SOLARIS National Synchrotron Radiation Centre in Krakow, Poland. The event was organised within the framework of the international LUKE project (Linking Ukraine to the European Research Area), funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme.

During the workshop, Ukrainian and European experts worked together to develop scenarios and strategic priorities for Ukraine’s research and innovation system through 2035 and beyond. Particular attention was given to Ukraine’s integration into the European Research Area, strengthening the country’s research capacity, and identifying key priorities for innovation-driven development.

The main topics discussed included preserving human capital and engaging the Ukrainian scientific diaspora; strengthening institutional capacity for integration into the European Research Area; applying artificial intelligence in scientific research; and developing defence and reconstruction technologies in the areas of security, demining, agricultural innovation, and mental health.
