This review dossier is devoted to issues of legal regulation of the use of assisted reproductive technologies in the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, China and Japan. It focuses on key aspects of permitted and prohibited practices in the field of embryos and surrogacy. It analyses legal approaches to the recognition and granting of legal status to children born through surrogacy programmes outside the country.
