Abstract. A comparative analysis of military service in the armies of the United States, Canada, Great Britain, Norway, Sweden, and Denmark is carried out. In particular, the procedure, principles and features of the system of promotion of soldiers and sergeants in the US Armed Forces, their financial support and social guarantees are researched. Special attention is paid to the procedure for the transfer of sergeants and officers to positions in the armed forces of the above mentioned states.
