There has been held an educational webinar on the topic ‘The Role of the Parliament of the Czech Republic in the Budget Control Process’. The event was conducted as part of a training sessions series organized in cooperation between the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the INTER PARES project.

The webinar lecturer was Klara Jankovská, a budget expert at the Parliamentary Institute of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic. In her report, she described the budget process in the Czech Republic, its structure and the role of parliamentary mechanisms in overseeing its implementation.

Special attention was paid to the role of key institutions:

- The Supreme Audit Office of the Czech Republic as an independent external audit body;

- the Fiscal Council of the Czech Republic, which carries out expert monitoring of compliance with the principles of budgetary responsibility;

- the Budget Control Committee, which provides parliamentary oversight of the public funds efficiency.

During the webinar, the participants also learned about financial management and accountability standards, EU practices on internal control and audit in public authorities, and the role of specialized parliamentary committees in the budget process.

The initiative is a part of a wider series of webinars dedicated to introducing the practices of EU member states under Title 32 ‘Financial Control’ of the EU acquis.

We would like to express our sincere gratitude to INTER PARES and the Parliamentary Institute of the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Republic for their fruitful cooperation and expert support.

Simultaneous interpretation of the event was provided by the Ukraine2EU - Support to Ukraine's Integration into the EU initiative, making the webinar accessible to a wide range of participants.
