Within the framework of cooperation between the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the European Parliamentary Research Service, an information session "Knowledge Sources on EU policy on women's rights and gender equality" was held, in which Deputy Head of the Research Service Department for Humanitarian and Social Policy Iryna Humeniuk took part.
During the discussion of the presentation of the assessment of the European Union policy on women's rights and gender equality and the role of parliaments in ensuring the gender perspectives in all spheres of public life, Iryna Humeniuk focused on the achievements of the EU legal mechanism to ensure gender mainstreaming in all policies of the member states and noted the positive achievements that have taken place in the EU over the past decades and are useful for application in Ukraine. At the same time, the gender pay gap between women and men is still high both in the EU Member States and in Ukraine. Considering the above, the information session participants discussed the role and importance of non-legal mechanisms for ensuring gender equality.
