As part of the cooperation between the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the International Centre for Black Sea Studies (Athens, Greece), an educational webinar was held on the topic “Best European Practices for Developing Administrative and Institutional Capacity for Managing and Regulating Fishing Activities”.
The speakers included:
· Dr. Javier SANZ LARRUGA, Professor of Administrative and Environmental Law, School of Law, University of A Coruña, Spain;
· Dr. Kolyo ZHELEV and Dr. Simona NICHEVA, experts from the Executive Agency for Fisheries and Aquaculture (IARA), Bulgaria;
· Mr. Pedro GALACHE, Head of the Strategy and Cooperation Unit at the European Fisheries Control Agency (EFCA).
Participants had the opportunity to explore key European approaches to fisheries management, covering administrative, environmental, and legal aspects.
In particular, the following topics were addressed during the webinar:
-the foundations of the EU Common Fisheries Policy and its importance for the sustainable use of marine resources;
-Bulgaria’s experience in developing a national data collection system for the fisheries sector in line with EU law;
-approaches to monitoring, inspection, and enforcement of fisheries regulations in EU Member States.
