As part of the ongoing cooperation between the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the EU Project “Pravo-Justice”, an educational webinar titled “Mechanisms of Integrity and Accountability in the Justice Sector” was held.

The keynote speaker was Mr. Ante Šprlje, Judge of the Municipal Court in Metković (Croatia), Minister of Justice of Croatia (2016–2017), and international short-term expert for the EU Project “Pravo-Justice”.

In his presentation, Mr. Šprlje highlighted:

-the importance of integrity and accountability in safeguarding judicial independence;

-key mechanisms for upholding integrity, including ethical standards, disciplinary procedures, and oversight and self-regulatory bodies;

-best practices from EU Member States and relevant international standards (GRECO, CEPEJ, CCJE);

-the main challenges in implementing reforms in the justice sector, along with practical recommendations.

The webinar provided a valuable platform for sharing experiences and discussing leading European practices in the justice sector, a topic of particular importance in light of Ukraine’s ongoing European integration process.

Simultaneous interpretation for the webinar was provided thanks to the EU Project “Pravo-Justice”, which made the event accessible to a broader audience.
