Oleksandr Kolosov, Chief Scientific Consultant of the Department of National Security and Law Enforcement, and Andrii Toka, Chief Consultant of the Department of Economic Development and Financial Policy of the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, participated in the discussion “The Battle for Identity: Understanding Russia’s War on Ukraine”.
The event was organized by the Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe (Austria) in cooperation with the Centre for Democratic Integrity (Austria) and the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. It was held in the context of the presentation of the book “Russia against Ukraine: Russian Political Mythology and the War on Ukrainian Identity”, edited by Anton Shekhovtsov, Director of the Centre for Democratic Integrity (Vienna).
The conversation focused on key findings of the study, exploring the ideological, political, and cultural roots of Russia’s aggression. Participants also discussed Russia’s use of history as a weapon in domestic propaganda and international disinformation campaigns, the promotion of anti-Ukrainian narratives, and modern approaches to understanding hybrid warfare and hybrid threats.
