On 16 June 2026, as part of the cooperation between the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine and the University of Genoa (Italy), an educational webinar entitled “Media Law. Challenges and Solutions for Ukraine’s Approximation with the Digital Services Act and the European Media Freedom Act” was held. The webinar was delivered by Enrico Albanesi, Associate Professor of Constitutional Law at the University of Genoa (Italy) and Associate Research Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London (United Kingdom).
The webinar explored current European Union approaches to the regulation of the media sector and digital services, with particular emphasis on the key provisions of the Digital Services Act (DSA) and the European Media Freedom Act (EMFA). Particular attention was paid to the specific features of aligning candidate countries’ legislation with the European Union acquis.
The state of alignment of Ukrainian media legislation with EU law was also analysed, with particular attention given to the significance of the Law of Ukraine “On Media” for the fulfilment of Ukraine’s European integration commitments. In addition, the next steps required to further align national legislation with the requirements of the DSA and EMFA were outlined.
