On 24 November 2025, the Research Service of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, in partnership with the EU Project Pravo-Justice, hosted an educational webinar titled “Media and Judiciary: Balancing Transparency and Impartiality”.

The webinar featured presentations by Maja Cvitan Grubisin, Component lead “Support to EU Integration Process in the Justice Sector of the EU Project Pravo-Justice; and Ante Šprlje, Judge of the Municipal court in Metković, Minister of Ministry of Justice of Croatia (2016-2017), international short-term expert of the EU Project Pravo-Justice.

During the educational webinar, key aspects of the interaction between the media and the judiciary were examined, including the role of the media in implementing judicial reforms, ensuring transparency and impartiality in the functioning of judicial institutions, shaping media narratives and their impact on public trust in the justice system, as well as the legal boundaries of media coverage of court proceedings.

Special attention was given to the experience of Croatia and to practical approaches to judicial communication with the public – in particular ethical standards, the work of court spokespersons, issues of confidentiality, and the specific considerations related to judges’ use of social media.

Simultaneous interpretation for the webinar was provided thanks to EU Project Pravo-Justice, which made the event accessible to a broader audience.
